Description

A broad glacier debouching into the western part of Porpoise Bay about 10 mi S of Cape Spieden. Delineated from aerial photographs taken by U.S. Navy (USN) Operation Highjump (1946-47). Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Dr. Silas Holmes, Assistant Surgeon on the brig Porpoise during the U.S. Exploring Expedition (USEE) (1838-42) under Lieutenant Charles Wilkes.
