A very prominent nunatak rising to 1,840 m near its center. Located 4 mi W of the summit of Mount Van der Hoeven in the W part of Helliwell Hills. Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1960-63. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Stanley K. Komatsu, U.S. Antarctic Research Program (USARP) biologist at McMurdo Station, 1966-67 and 1967-68.
