Conspicuous, mainly ice-covered peak which rises above the plateau at the S end of Founders Escarpment. It stands 2 mi NNW of Zavis Peak in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains. Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy (USN) air photos, 1961-66. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Lieutenant Maurice H. Unger, USN, navigator on photographic flights over Marie Byrd and Ellsworth Lands during Deep Freeze 1965 and 1966.
