Description (see definition): A transverse ridge, 5.5 miles long, extending SW-NE across Saint Johns Range between Wheeler Valley and Lobeck Glacier, Victoria Land. The ridge rises to 1550 meters in Mount Rowland. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) (2007) after Ernest Rutherford, 1st Baron of Nelson and Cambridge (1871-1937), British physicist of New Zealand birth and winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 1908. His researches in radiation and atomic structure were basic to the later 20th-century developments in nuclear physics.
