Description (see definition): Ice-covered, dome-shaped island 8 mi in diameter, lying 15 mi NE of Cape Collier, off the E coast of Palmer Land. Discovered from the air on Nov. 7, 1947 by Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE), under Ronne, who named it for Dr. Maurice Ewing of Columbia University, who assisted in planning the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE) seismological program.
