One of the ice-covered islands in Marshall Archipelago, located within Sulzberger Ice Shelf, coastal Marie Byrd Land. The island is 7 mi long and 1 mi wide and lies 13 mi SW of Steventon Island. Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1959-65. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Harry W. Grinder, aviation structural mechanic, U.S. Navy (USN), of McMurdo Station, 1967.
