Description (see definition): An isolated, low rock peak (2,060 m) rising above the ice surface just S of Bermel Escarpment, in the Thiel Mountains. The name was proposed by Peter Bermel and Arthur Ford, co-leaders of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Thiel Mountains party which surveyed these mountains in 1960-61. Named for Philip T. Hayes, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologist in the McMurdo Sound dry valley area, 1958-59.
