Description (see definition): An isolated granite nunatak lying 4 mi N of Pirrit Hills. The nunatak was examined by U.S. Antarctic Research Program (USARP) geologists Edward Thiel and Campbell Craddock on Dec. 13, 1959, in the course of an airlifted geophysical traverse along the 88th meridian West. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Steelworker First Class Orlan F. John, U.S. Navy (USN), who lost his life in a construction accident at McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, Nov. 2, 1960.
